In this post I want to leave you a new pattern: a hat in which the detail is given by the relief. This relief was made by crocheting the back post single crochet stitch. Here you can see the tutorial of this stitch (in spanish).

The rest of the pattern is crocheted in double and single crochet stitches, making it an ideal project for beginners.

  1. I love the textured baby hat pattern but I would like to make it for a 12 month old. Also would it work to make it into a slouch by adding rows before the brim?

    • Beth:
Thanks for your comment. For a 12 month old you would have to add 1 or 2 rounds to make it wider. Replace the round 11 of the pattern for this:
Round 11: *Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 3 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch*. Repeat from *. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc. Total: 72 dc
Round 12: Repeat round 2. Total: 72 sc
If you need a wider hat:
Round 13: *Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 4 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch*. Repeat from *. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc. Total: 84 dc
Round 14: Repeat round 2. Total: 84 sc
When you reach the width desired, continue with the pattern from round 11.
For a slouchy hat, you have to add rounds repeating round 11 and 12 of the pattern until you reach the desired size.

  2. I love this hat…it is so cute! Can this be adjusted to fit an adult? The way you illustrate patterns with symbols looks so easy. Terrific. Thanks for all your hard work!

    • Dorothy:
Thank you! Yes, you could crochet it in adult size. You just have to add a few rounds until you reach the desired width:
round 11) *Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 3 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch*. Repeat from *. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc.
      round 12) Repeat round 2.
round 13) *Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 4 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch*. Repeat from *. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc.
      round 14) Repeat round 2.
round 15) *Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 5 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch*. Repeat from *. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc.
      round 16) Repeat round 2.
When you reach the desired width continue with the pattern from round 11.
      Regards
      Soledad
